KTM had plenty to shout about at 2018 EICMA in Milan. Amongst the new bikes they unveiled during the show was a revamped KTM 690 SMC R, their latest addition to the supermoto line up.
MotoGPTM rider, Pol Espargaró, gushed on stage about his love for riding supermoto as an excellent training tool and just for fun, which was a fitting way to introduce the return of the KTM 690 SMC R in 2019.
Sitting at the heart of the new 690 SMC R is a renovated version of the LC4 single cylinder engine that’s been a mainstay of KTM’s R&D department since the 80s. This version of the LC4 produces 74 hp at 8000 rpm making it the world’s most powerful production single.
Other additions to this superb street machine include:
-
Slimmer, more rigid fuel tank
-
Compact body work
-
Two ride modes
-
Cornering ABS
-
Lean angle-sensitive motorcycle traction control
-
Motor slip regulation (MSR)
-
Quickshifter+
-
Supermoto ABS mode aiding rear slides with front-end confidence.
