Three years ago KTM entered the MotoGP series full-time with the then newly developed KTM RC16.
On Sunday, the team's hard work paid off when rookie Brad Binder took the teams first ever chequered flag aboard his 2020 KTM RC16 in Brno, Czech Republic.
Binder’s win is not only the first time KTM have won a MotoGP race, it’s also the first time a South African has taken the top prize in the premier division of sport motorcycle racing.
KTM’s dominance in the MX and SX arena is unrivalled. But their decision to enter the ultra competitive world of MotoGP three seasons ago was met with some scepticism.
The only way to silence the sceptics was to get results.
Drawing on KTM's vast MX racing experience and unrivalled research and development department, the MotoGP team have consistently improved season on season and Sunday’s result is the culmination of the team's combined efforts.
KTM’ CEO, Stefan Pierer said of the historic achievement:
“Step by step we have been moving closer and closer to the front, defying some expectations as we continued to believe in what we could achieve.”
“To win a race in our fourth year in MotoGP is testament to the work ethic and knowhow of our KTM Motorsports department and R&D engineers.”
KTM’s Supersport range often takes a backseat to the record breaking MX, SX, Enduro and Rally models. But the latest results in MotoGP are a sure fire way to instill faith for riders that the same meticulous approach to design and performance can be found in all of KTM’s motorcycles.
