Duke fans! Christmas has come early this year with the announcement of three brand-spanking new models for MY2022 that’ll (fingers crossed) be arriving on dealership floors early in the new year.
It’s been nearly two years since KTM’s flagship street motorcycle underwent a radical makeover to reduce the weight, rework the LC8 engine and install the most technically advanced electronics package on the market.
KTM named it THE BEAST and from the feedback we’ve had from customers, it more than lived up to the billing. Fast forward to today and the team at KTM have announced two new models in quick succession that aim to deliver more of what customers are craving.
The KTM 1290 Super Duke R & KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo
Building on the legendary BEAST, these new incarnations of the DUKE 1290 take technological advancements to the next level.
The EVO has been fitted with second generation WP APEX semi-active suspension from WP.
According to KTM: “This allows THE BEAST to go from a comfortable rocket on poor road surfaces to a hardened track-ready apex-splitting weapon - at a simple click of a switch.”
This is all thanks to the three different damping modes that come as standard - comfort, street & sport.
Both models retain the RAIN, STREET & SPORT, and optional TRACK and PERFORMANCE ride modes. All these modes give the rider improved feedback on what the LC8 engine is doing, whilst limiting the traction control and anti-wheelie features.
The new DUKES look as striking as ever with two new colourways introduced for MY2022. The familiar blue and orange livery is backed up with an all-new silver and orange version that looks as lively as you’d expect from a bike with this much grunt.
KTM have kept riders in mind that love a tinker by producing an extensive range of KTM PowerParts for both models. You can even get your hands on matching KTM PowerWear to look the absolute part as you smoke the rest of the competition.
The KTM 1290 Super Duke GT
If you’re more of a tourer than a tearer up of race tracks, then KTM also has an exciting update on their incredibly popular long-distance BEAST.
The new KTM 1290 Super Duke GT covers ground unlike any other sports tourer on the market.
With its EURO 5 rated, 175 HP, 141 Nm KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R-derived, 1,301 cc V-twin engine propelling you from A to B you’ll be hauling in the horizon in no time.
The list of upgrades is pretty extensive, but for tourers who love heading off the beaten track the all-new navigation system called Turn-by-Turn PLUS is a real game changer.
KTM say of the new nav system:
“TBT+ will be available via KTM Connect. This allows navigation instructions to be projected directly on the new 7-inch TFT display, helping riders navigate more effectively. Turn-by-turn PLUS will be launched on the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT, with roll-outs to other models in the near future”
“Powered by SYGIC®, TBT+ can also operate offline, allowing riders to plan their journey and adventure from remote locations, with the NAVIGATION feature using industry-standard mapping to guide riders to their destination of choice.
“There’s also an advanced search feature, and a diverse range of POIs including gas stations, restaurants, rest stops, while the system lets you select one of your pre-saved destinations directly from the TFT dash.”
“All the above features can be accessed directly from the new 7-inch TFT dash, while the rider no longer needs to remove their phone from the jacket pocket, making it more convenient and efficient for those quick on-the-fly changes.”
