Way back in 2017 KTM ripped open the mid weight motorcycle segment with the introduction of KTM 790 Duke, affectionately known as ‘The Scalpel’. Chaos ensued and 29,000 of these potent machines flew off showroom floors and into the hands of speed-loving riders.
Since then KTM increased the engine capacity with the ‘Super Scalpel’ and KTM 890 DUKE, leaving midweight riders wondering when the next incarnation of the original scalpel would look like.
Well the wait is almost over. In June of this year, the 2022 KTM 790 Duke Scalpel will land on dealership floors. Here’s what you can expect from KTM’s fresh take on their middleweight champion.
The most compact two cylinder in its class
Two versions of the new look Scalpel will be released. In Europe riders will receive the 95hp version, allowing for A2 configuration. The rest of the world will receive the full bore 105hp version, specifically tuned for torque and power.
The KTM 790 Duke is equipped with KTM’s signature LC8c parallel twin. With an impressive top-end, the new scalpel is lively through the whole rev-range. Riders can enjoy pulling back the throttle, safe in the knowledge that it’s only drinking 4.4L every 100 km.
Unrivalled handling
The original Scalpel was renowned for its precision handling and the new version lives up to its predecessor. Top of the range WP suspension cushions the ride in the most lively corners. The geometry is geared for sporty street riding, pulling the rider to the road and instilling confidence in every twist of the throttle.
New colour schemes are next level
It wouldn’t be a new KTM model without a fresh lick of paint. And this time the Scalpel faithful have been rewarded with TWO head turning colourways.

The iconic KTM orange and black makes a return, with new discrete Duke graphics. If you want the classic KTM look this is the one for you.
If you’re after something a little more ‘bespoke’ the all-new grey and black motif is slicker than Silverstone in the wet. This colourway really does stand out amongst the rest of the middleweight segment.
